Ancient historical monuments

Many of the ancient monuments found in Valencia detail the rich history from the Moorish epoch to the Christian Re-conquest in 1238. One of the rich historical monuments in Valencia is the ancient early Gothic styled Cathedral which underwent various renovations throughout the different eras to reflect their unique styles; these include Romanesque and Baroque as well as Gothic. There is a main chapel built in Baroque style while two other chapels at the sides are Neo-classic.

There is also an interesting octagonal bell-tower which is called the Micalet that stands as the city’s landmark. A great panoramic view of Valencia can be seen from Micalet and one can confirm the presence of 300 other bell-towers in the city.

The Cathedral’s Capitulary houses the Holy Chalice which is the space where Jesus Christ and his disciples had their Last Supper. The Cathedral also has a museum which showcases the artistic works of Cellini, Goya, Paggibonsi and Jacomart besides the ancient 15th century Valencian school paintings.

Close by is the Desemparados Church that was consecrated to one of the patroness of Valencia. There is also the medieval granary which is transformed as a museum. More quaint churches and ancient palaces still stand majestically in their structural splendor from the past.

Environment beauties

Valencia has many natural and environmental beauties all over the place. Three ancient bridges still stand strong; the Real Bridge, the Trinidad Bridge and the Serranos Bridge are sturdy structures that enhance the aesthetics of the place.

There are beautiful 15th century towers which were part of the ancient town walls built in defense. The structural arch of triumph gives the environment an ambience of tranquility and elegance. The area is well fortified with solid structures which were used to defend against enemy attacks.

The river Turia skirts around Valencia City after a 1957 catastrophe. Today, a lot of effort has been put in to transform the old river bed to accommodate all types of interesting leisure sports.

One of the main museums in Spain is located at the ancient river bed; the IVAM or Valencia’s Institute of Modern Arts is a leading museum in Spain on modern arts.
