Spain is a country that receives over 50 million visitors every year. It is also a country that has a well established tourism sector that gives many returns to the country’s economy. It therefore comes as no wonder that the country is a favorite to many people who come in to enjoy the diversity that can only be enjoyed in this beautiful land.

Generally, Spain is a member of the EFTA/EU as well as the Schengen agreement. This means that the visa policies for member countries are a bit flexible thus making entry quite easy. Members of the above may however expect custom checks when they start their flights or as they are crossing the borders.

However, there are non-EFTA/EU nationals that may not need visas to enter into Spain. It is very important that you find out whether your country is in the list before you start carrying on with any arrangements to travel to Spain. Persons with British national, Macau SAR, Hong Kong SAR passports may also not need visas to enter Spain.

For the non-members, a stay may not exceed some 90 days over a period of 80 days. This applies to the entire Schengen area. In most cases, a non-member is not allowed to work in the Schengen country but to this there are some exceptions. The period will be counted starting from the time you get in and in no case will it be reversed. For citizens from New Zealand, a stay may exceed the 90 day limit in some countries.

For non-members, even those who are exempt from visas with an exception of san Marinese, Monegasque and Andorra, it is very important that your passport be stamped when you are entering and when you are leaving the Schengen area. When you lack the stamp, you may find yourself on the wrong side of the law marked as an “over-stayer”. When it is not possible to get the stamps, make sure that you have papers such as passes, tickets as well as ATM slips which may be convincing to all that you are in the region legally.

For Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Albania as well as Herzegovina nationals, a biometric passport may be necessary so as to have a travel free of visa. Nationals from Serbia who hold passports that were issued by SCD (Serbian coordination directorate), visas are not a requirement. For people from Taiwan, the passport should bear the ID number so as to have travel without need of a visa.
